Amy P. Abernethy, MD PhD, has built her life around the two pillars of the Good Entertainment Foundation: education and health. Plus, she’s a mom who values the power of media and learning.
Since our Foundation is based on utilizing entertainment to further education and health awareness, it just made good sense to recruit Frank Stewart to our Board. Frank earns his living as an entertainment attorney in Los Angeles, representing primarily artists in the motion picture, television and live theatre industries. He reps some pretty interesting and important folks, but he won’t brag about that.
Our Foundation’s focus on health is what made us pester Penny Gordon-Larsen, PhD, to join the Board. Penny is Professor of Nutrition in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on obesity and its health consequences. She spends most of her time figuring out how biology, behavior, and environment inter-relate to shape health and disease. She is also the mom to two active teenagers who love science and music.
When it comes to a commitment to education, no Board member exemplifies it more than Jennifer Tedford, EdD. And where she lives, there is no shortage of entertainment, either. Jennifer is the Chief Academic Officer for the Beverly Hills Unified School District, a K-12 public school district in Beverly Hills, CA. Dr. Tedford directs all curriculum and instructional programs, teacher professional development, and technology integration throughout the district. Dr. Tedford also oversees the district’s student support programs, including serving on the board for The Maple Counseling Center (TMCC). Current research and professional interests include expanding STEM course options for all students, including historically underrepresented populations. Recently, she was awarded an Arts grant to train visual and performing arts teachers on interdisciplinary practices, including expanding STEM to STEAM for K-12 students.
